No. 299, Session ll.—Petition of Joseph White and Others. The petitioners pray that the law be so altered or amended as to place hares without the pale of protection hitherto afforded them in the Province of Nelson by the Protection of Animals Act. [ am directed to report that the Committee recommend the prayer of the petitioners to the favourable consideration of the Government. Ist December, 1879.

No. 214, Session ll.—Petition of E. Gillies and Others, of Otago. The petitioners pray that it may be provided by legislation that the medical profession may be adequately represented on the Senate of the New Zealand University. 1 am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the petition be referred to the Government for the information of the Commission now sitting. Ist December, 1879.

No. 292, Session IL—Petition of E. M. Dickey and Others, of Waikato. The petitioners pray that the allotments in the Township of Whatawhata may be opened for sale, and that various public works may be constructed in the district. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the petitiou be referred to the Government for consideration. Ist December, 1879.

No. 812, Session ll. —Petition of Duncan McKenzie and Others, of Waipu. The petitioners pray that the Government will employ an engineer to survey the Waipu River. 1 am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the petition be referred to the Government for consideration. Ist December, 1879.

No. 265, Session IL- —Petition of John Clevebley. The petitioner alleges that he has been dismissed from the position of Sub-Manager of the Naval Training School at Auckland without due notice, and prays for redress. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the petitioner should have complained in the first instance to the Government through his superior officer, so that the complaint might have been accompanied by any explanation which the latter might see fit to make. The Committee is further of opinion that the school ought to be placed under local inspection, similar to that which has all along existed in connection with the Otago Reformatory and Industrial School; and that the Government be recommended to take the necessary action in the matter, aud also to institute a thorough investigation into the working of the school. Ist December, 1879.

Nos. 297, 300, Session ll.—Petitions of Robeet F. Cuthbertson and Others, of the County of Wallace; and R. T. Waeeen and Others, of Patea. The petitioners pray for the construction of a branch railway in Otago ; and for the construction of a road to open up the inland Patea District, respectively. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that tho petitions be referred to the Government for consideration. Ist December, 1879.

No. 282, Session II. —Petition of C. G. Teipp and Others, of the County of Geraldiue. The petitioners pray that the proposed new County of Timaru may not be constituted. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the petition be referred to the Government. 2nd December, 1879.

No. 58, Session ll. —Petition of John Hogan. The petitioner prays for compensation for loss alleged to have been caused to him through a mistake made in the Immigration Department, between his own name and hi* brother's. I am directed to report that the Committee have no recommendation to make to the House in the case of the petitioner. 2nd December, 1879.

No. 207, Session ll.—Petition of William Cumming, Chairman of a Public Meeting at Beaumont. The petitioner prays that the House will not assent to the severance of the Tapanui District from the County of Tuapeka. I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion that the petition be referred to the Government. 2nd December, 1879. 3—1.1.
