Extract from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Feiday, the 15th day op September, 1871. Ordered, That a Select Committee be appointed to examine into the whole question of the working and management of the Electric Telegraph Department, and to report thereon; five to be a quorum; the Committee to consist of the Hon. Mr. Vogel, Sir. Farnall, Captain McPherson, Mr. Johnston, Mr. Pearce, the Hon. Mr. Hall, Mr. Eolleston, Mr. Steward, Mr. Webster, and the Mover ; with power to call for persons and papers, but not to have power to inspect telegrams, or to examine officers as to the contents thereof; Eeport to be brought up within a month.
