Enclosure No. 15. Messrs. Julxan and Saegeaunt to the Hon. W. Fitzheebeet. Offices of the Crown Agents for the Colonies, Sic, — Spring Gardens, London, S.W., 21st July, 1868. I transmit herewith for your information, copy of a letter received from the Secretary to the Bank of England, in reply to one sent to the Governor by the Crown Agents, declining to exchange the Imperial guaranteed 4 per cent. New Zealand bonds held by them for the new 5 per cent, consolidated debentures of the General Government of that Colony. I have, &c, The Hon. W. Fitzherbert. W. C. Saegeaunt. Mr. Hammond Chubb to the Ceown Agents for the Colonies. G-entlemen,— Bank of England, E.C., 15th July, 1868. I am directed by the Governor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of yesterday's date inquiring whether the Bank would be prepared to exchange the Imperial guaranteed New Zealand Government 4 per cent, debentures which they at present hold, for New Zealand Government 5 per cents., to be issued under an Act of the New Zealand Legislature for raising a loan towards the conversion, &c, of former loans of that Colony; and in reply I am instructed to inform you that the Bank decline to make the exchange proposed. I have, &c, Hammond Chubb, The Crown Agents, &c. Secretary.
