ORDERS OF REFERENCE
Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives Thursday, the 27th Day of June, 1946 Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters in connection with defence which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Anderton, Mr. P. Carr, Mr. Connolly, Mr. Harker, Mr. Macdonald, Mr. Macfarlane, Mr. Osborne, Mr. Roy, Mr. Sim, and the Mover." —(Hon. Mr. Jones.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1945 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Thursday, the 12th Day of September, 1946 Ordered, " That the proceedings of the Defence Committee during the taking of evidence on the hearing of the petition of G. Laing be open to accredited representatives of the press."—(Mr. Macfarlane.)
REPORTS
No. 3.—Petition of J. B. Chambers, of Raetihi, Farmer Praying for compensation on account of alleged financial loss due to service in the Forces. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. It is the opinion of this Committee that the petitioner should re-submit his application for rehabilitation assistance. 31st July, 1946.

No. 29. —Petition of J. Black, of 33 Disraeli Street, Christchurch Praying for payment of the full war-disability pension. I have the honour to report that the Committee is of the opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 29th August, 1946.
No. 33. —Petition of A. T. Dillon, of Frankton Junction, Discharged Serviceman Praying that he be granted the equivalent of a war pension. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered the petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 12th September, 1946.
A Resolution op the Defence Committee I have the honour to report that the Defence Committee has passed a resolution that the proceedings of the Committee during the taking of evidence on the hearing of the petition of G. Laing be open to accredited representatives of the press. 12th September, 1946.
Special Report I have the honour to report that at a meeting held on Wednesday, the 2nd day of October, 1946, the Defence Committee passed the following resolution : " That this Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the way in which members of Hansard staff took notes of evidence under difficult circumstances during the hearing of the petition of G. Laing, and directs that this resolution be reported to the House." 7th. October, 1946. R. M. Macfarlane, Chairman.
