DEFENCE EXPENDITURE
HIGH LEVEL IN PORTUGAL (Received Dec. 31, 1 p.m.) LISBON, Dec. 30 Portugal will spend as much on defence in 1946 as in 1945, according to the Budget estimates published today. The cost of defence forms 15 per cent of the estimated total expenditure of £43,&09,000. The war profits tax is abolished but a higher 3U’ld is demanded from nearly all other forms of taxation.
