COMMERCIAL TESTS
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce scholar for 1945 is Miss Coralie E. Grove, of Claudelands, this announcement being made as a result of the commercial examinations recently conducted. Miss Grove gained honours in shorthand at 80 words a minute, distinction in typewriting and junior book-keeping and a pass in commercial English and handwriting. None of the national awards came to Hamilton, six of these successes going to Auckland and one to Dannevirke.
The following results were gained by Hamilton candidates:—Senior typewriting, pass 5. Junior typewriting, pass with honours 4, pass with distinction 7, pass 28. English composition, pass with distinction 1, pass 18. Book-keeping, pass with distinction 2, pass 3. Shorthand, pass with honours 16, pass with distinction 9, pass 9. Office practice, pass with honours 2, pass 4. Handwriting. pass with honours 1, Pass with distinction 4, pass 38. Candidates totalled 74, compared with 67 last year. The greatest number of entries was in junior typewriting where there were 55 candidates, compared with 46 in 1944.
