Potatoes Dumped

Workmen engaged in loading potatoes from the United States Joint Purchasing Board store in King's Drive, Auckland, have been equipped with masks and gloves. The potatoes are being dumped at the Auckland City Council tip at Westmere because they have reached an advanced stage of deterioration. They are part of a consignment from Tasmania, some of which had to be

dumped on arrival some weeks ago. About 1200 tons of the same consignment were kept in cool store and are in good order. They will be sent shortly to the Philippines on the United States naval vessel Dilphinus. It is hoped also to ship another 1700 tons which are in cool store at Horotiu.
