TAKANINI TRIALS

BEAU DINK BEATS CORONAIRE BLACK ACE’S GOOD HALF (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Thursday A trial over a mile by Coronaire and Beau Dink was one of the features of the final gallops at Takanini this morning of horses with engagements at the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s meeting at Te Aroha on Saturday. Coronaire led his companion in the early stages to cover the first half-mile in 535, but Beau Dink soon made up the leeway and was doing the better at the end after clocking 1.47 3-5. All galloping was on the inside grass track, which was in fairly good order. Coronaire's failure to defeat Beau Dink would come as a disappointment to his admirers for the Makaraka Handicap on Saturday. Over five furlongs Sweet Biscuit and My Bonnie were going nicely to record 1.5 3-5. King’s Pride again held the upper hand in his test with Lord Chancellor in 1.6 3-5. General March, alone, recorded 1.6 2-5, Yours and Mine shaded Old Scot in 1.7, Jovial Song took 1.8 3-5 and Default and Au Revoir ran the last half-mile of five furlongs in 565. Black Ace recorded the best figures over half-a-mile as he traversed the distance in good style in 51 3-ss. Sweet Girl defeated Sahib by two lengths in 52 3-ss. Sir Jovial and Beau Siri took 545, Gay Joy 555, Some Swell 555, and Park Royal 54 3-ss. In a sprint over three furlongs Beau Martian and White Blaze were seen in promising form to register 37 3-ss. Jey Fleet, with a big advantage in the weights, was going better than Yusuf in 38s. Lady Adornment sprinted over the last three of her work in 41s, Peter Gregor easily ran 42 2-5 s and Corineus 425. Gay Lally was sent seven furlongs, being assisted over the last three by Chief Robin, and he came over the last six in 1.20 La Fillette and Sousa had no difficulty in recording 1.24.
