TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES REGENT THEATRE “For Whom the Bell Tolls’’ is the brilliant screen version or one or the outstanding novels or our time, horn out or the fierce ideological .struggle or the Spanish Civil War. At the special children’s matinee on Saturday the latter feature will be shown with comedies, cartoon and the serial. “ Frisco Sal ” commences a season on Saturday night. ROXY THEATRE A valuable gem that has caused murder and misfortune since the days of the Borglas claims the attention or Sherlock Holmes in “Pearl of Death,” another episode in the popular adventure serle-s. Basil Rathbone contributes a carerul character study as the famous detective, assisted by the übiquitous Dr Watson (Nigel Bruce. A stormy period of American history has been used as the background Tor “In Old Oklahoma,” in which a strong cast is headed by J*hn Wayne and Martha Scott. “Went the Day Well?” and “ Gipsy Wildcat ” will be shown tomorrow. CIVIC THEATRE Much more will be heard of the promising young star Lon McCallister who makes his second screen appearance in " Home In Indiana ” (he was first seen in his brilliant performance as “ California ” in “ Stage Door Canteen ”). The success of this wholly delightful film resides principally in its pleasant story, lush countryside in natural colour, and some thrilling scenes of Grand Circuit racing that will excite the admiration of all lovers of horseflesh. “ The Fighting 69th,” a rousing tale of army life, will have its initial screenings tomorrow. James Cagney, Pat O’Brien and George Brent have the starring roles.
