PLAN UNACCEPTABLE

MOSLEM LEAGUE VIEW A SEPARATE NATION SUSPENSE AT SIMLA (United Tress Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Julj. 14, 1 p.m.) LONDON, July 13 The president of the Moslem League, Mr Jinnah, announced today that Lord Wavell’s plan for an Indianised Government was unacceptable to him in its present form, reports the Daily Express correspondent in Simla. He seemed unperturbed by the hectic atmosphere of suspense now hanging over Simla, adds the correspondent. Mr Jinnah pointed out that Lord Wavell’s plan was based on the geographical unity of India but disputing Indian national unity. Moslems must not be regarded as a national minority but a separate nation. “We must be allowed the right of selfdetermination,” he said. "We have e national home in some districts of India and we are a national entity with a national culture. Although outnumbered by the rest of India we are no more outnumbered than i* Britain by America.” On the proposed Executive Council, Mr Jinnah said they wanted equality of representation with the Congress Party and the right to form a Pakistan party (separate Moslem State) after the war. Without these guarantees he could not co-operate and might as well wind up the Moslem League. MONARCHIST UPRISING INTENTION IN GREECE ROYALIST ORGANISATION LONDON, July 13 The Greek Monarchists plan an uprising if the plebiscite on the restoration of King George of Greece is defeated, says the Daily Herald's diplomatic correspondent. The plebiscite will be held before the end of the year The correspondent says the “Tory press’’ has ignored the position in Greece, but all Left Wing newspapers have been expressing anxiety about it for seme time. The Greek Monarchists will impose a dictatorship if they gain a majority at the plebiscite and will revolt if they are defeated. Organised Royalist officers are in key posts of the National Guard and gendarmerie. Their organisations are being formed along storm troop lines. Passive Connivance The Greek Government, while professing complete impartiality* is passively conniving at the activities going on under its nose. The immediate political issue, adda the correspondent, is whether the plebiscite shall be held as soon as voting is possible, or whether the ordinary elections shall be held first. The Government intended to hold the elections first, in order to get an indication of the strength of the parties. It wanted the plebiscite held in a calmer atmosphere. However, the Monarchists, who hope to stampede the moderate Republicans into voting for the King’s return as the only alternative to Communism, demand that the plebiscite be held first. The decision will probably hinge on the advice of the British Government. The Prime Minister of Greece, Ad- | miral Voulgaris, has broadcast a denial that there have been any incidents on the frontier region of Macedonia. He said these rumours were for the most part calculated to create an atmosphere of unrest. Marshal Tito a few days ago spoke of Slav people in Macedonia being oppressed by reactionaries and alleged that Greek provocateurs had be »n firing across the frontier. A man who urged his greyhound dog to kill a cat was sent to prison for three months with hard labour in Sydney today for needlessly causing the animal’s death. Evidence was given that the man was seen encouraging the dog as it held the cat in its mouth and was shalcing k from side to side.
