TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES REGENT THEATRE The triumphant success which attended the screenings or “Going My Way” throughout this country has been repeated during recent weeks by “The White ClitTs of Dover,” another great film which finds its inspiration in simple things. Alice Duer Millers narrative poem has been translated to the medium of the screen without losing any of its inspiration or appeal, and the result is entertainment that should appeal to all audiences. Irene Dunn is starred, and strong support comes from Alan Marshall, Roddy McDowell. Frank Morgan, Sir C. Aubrey Smith and Dame May Whitty. ROXY THEATRE Life in the occupied countries has been the subject of a number or notable films but perhaps none has been more sympathetically handled than “The Moon is Down,” an adaptation of the well known story by John Steinbeck, who has reached the front ranks of American writers. An impressive cast includes Henry Travers, Lee J. Cobb, Sir Cedric Hardwicke and William Post, jun. An inspiring story of the Fighting French is told in “ The Cross of Lorraine,” which heads the new bill of fare tomorrow. Olsen and Johnson have the leading roles in “ Ghost Catchers,” the associate feature. STATE THEATRE Tyrone Power is starred, while Anne Baxter and Dana Andrews top the large cast used in the filming of 20th CenturyFox’s thrilling technicolour story of submarine warfare. “ Crash Dive.” Most of the action-packed sequences of the story were actually filmed under Navy supervision at the U.S. Navy Submarine Base, at New London, Connecticut. The associate film, " Through Other Eyes,” is a thrilling mystery story. “ Sweet Enemies ” and “ Sweethearts of the U.S.A. ” will be shown tomorrow. THE ROYAL All the bewitching glamour or the South Seas is contained in Columbia’s “Tahiti Nights,” which heads the new programme at the Royal tonight. Lovely Jinx Falkcnburg contributes another talented performance as I.uana, who is compelled by her tribe to marry the man chosen for her. “Dead Man’s Eyes” is a chilling melodrama which concerns the restoration or sight to a blind man by transplanting the cornea from the eyes or his dead friend. The Ministry of Information film, “World of Plenty,” will be screened on Saturday. CIVIC THEATRE Some years ago Margaret Kennedy wrote a book that instantly became a sensational best-seller. The book, entitled “The Constant Nymplv” became a hit play on Broadway, and now has been made into a picture by Warner Bros. Starred in the Him are Charles Boyer and Joan Fontaine, who won the Academy Award for her fine performance in “Suspicion.” Bette Davis’ latest film, “Now, Voyager,” will fie screened tomorrow.
