FRESH WATER BORE ON NGONGOTAHA PROPERTY

The successful sinking of a freshwater bore on the property of Mr W. Branson at Kaharoa, Ngongotaha, is a matter of importance to that district, which though comprising excellent farming lands, has been retarded in its development in the past owing to a dearth of water supply. In 1920 the Government sank two test bores in the district, reaching a depth of 400 feet without result. About five years ago Mr Branson took over an abandoned property of 400 acres on which he has been running cattle and sheep. Feeling the lack of water for the property, Mr Branson some time ago engaged the services of Mr George Hutchinson, well-borer, of Morrinsville. Mr Hutchinson sank a bore to 623 feet and secured a good supply of fresh water, which rises 300 ieet in the 2£-inch bore. By means of pumping a supply of 360 gallons •in hour is now being reticulated. The indications are that similar success can now be achieved anywhere in the district. 570
