LABOURER REMANDED SEQUEL TO OTAHUHU TRAGEDY (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday The Police Court was packed this morning when Stanley Winwood McKissick Reid, aged 41, described in the charge sheet as a labourer and range fitter, appeared before Mr F. H. Levien, S.M., on a charge of murdering Lila Williamson Hammond at Otahuhu on July 9. Accused was not represented by counsel. A request by the police for a remand of one week was granted. The arrest was made by DetectiveSergeant F. Aplin and Detective D. Halpin at St. Heliers Bay at about 8.30 p.m. yesterday. Reports had been received earlier that a man answering to the description issued by the police had booked a room at a boarding-house there. The detectives went to the boarding-house and there made the arrest. The efforts of all available detectives and uniformed police were directed yesterday at,finding a man whose description had been circulated to all police stations in the Dominion. The murdered woman was the wife of Mr Roland Hammond, who was working at Helensville when the tragedy occurred. The victim was found with a deep wound across the throat and a fractured skull. There were cuts on both hands. Her bloodstained clothing was found in It detached wash-house.
