RECEIVING ALLEGED

MAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL A charge of receiving stolen property was denied by Frederick Samuel Repia, aged 26, of Auckland, before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton, today. Repia reserved his defence and was committed to the Supreme Court, Auckland, for trial. Senior-Detective W. R. Murray said accused was charged with receiving a suitcase and contents, valued at £ll 17s 6d, alleged to have been stolen from Norman Broderick Mitchell, an Army captain of Rongotai, Wellington. Evidence showed that the suitcase was removed from a carriage on the Auckland-Rotorua express train on Friday, May 25. Constable M. J. Ross, of the detective office, Hamilton, said he- discovered the suitcase in accused’s possession during the course of inquiries. Samuel Henry Coley, of Wellington, said Repia told him at Frankton on May 26 that he would forward the suitcase to him addressed to the Wellington station. Accused later intended to secure it. The last witness was questioned by the accused from the box. The accused made certain allegations and became abusive, which drew from the magistrate the comment that he would have him removed from the court if he did not cease. Senior-Detective Murray said that accused was already waiting to appear in the Supreme Court at Auckland on various charges.
