DANGEROUS CARGO
SHIP TAKEN OUT AND SUNK (Received July 11, 1 p.m.) LONDON, July 10 The 4800-ton munition ship Empire Fal, which recently arrived in Hull from America with 30,000 bombs on board, has been taken out and deliberately sunk in the Atlantic because her cargo was too dangerous to handle, says the Daily Express. When unloading began one bomb exploded after falling only three or four feet, causing casualties. After that explosives experts prohibited further unloading. A volunteer merchant navy crew on June 29 sailed the ship to deep water, set charges and opened the seacocks before transferring to a destroyer.
