SPECTACLE IN SKY

VAPOUR TRAIL FROM PLANE The vapour trail from an aeroplane flying high above Hamilton at three o'clock yesterday afternoon created a spectacular effect against a clear blue sky. The vapour trail, which appeared pencil-like in thickness immediately behind the plane, gradually dispersed into fluffy .white clouds. ! It is not often that these effects are created by vapour trails, but on November 3 last year a similar spectacle was visible. If atmospheric conditions are favourable at a high altitude the drop in pressure over the wings or other projecting parts of the plane gives corresponding drop in temperature in the immediate vicinity and water vapour conditions form cloud.
