TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES THEATRE ROYAL “Behind Prison Walls” is an exciting comedy with an unusual theme— a son goes to prison to prove that his father is wrong, so the father leaves prison to prove that his son is right! The cast includes such clever players as Alan Baxter, Gertrude Michael. Tully Marshall and Edwin Maxwell. “Spotlight Scandals” is a gay comedy with music, with Billy Gilbert, Bonnie Baker and Frank Fay leading the cast. Some tuneful melodies and clever dances are introduced. ROXY THEATRE “Thunderbolts” is a thrilling® drama of romance and action, and at the same time introduces many authentic scenes of the training of American airmen. Gene Tierney, Preston Foster and John Sutton are the principals in a threecornered romance, and get splendid support from Jack Holt, Reginald Denny and the rest of the cast. “Smart Alecks” has the popular East Side Kids—Leo Gorcey, Bobby Jordan and Maxie Rosenbloom—in an exciting comedy. STATE THEATRE “Bermuda Mystery” tells an entertaining story of mystery, romance and glamour on a coral isle, with Preston Foster and Ann Rutherford heading a strong cast. The second feature film, “Silent Witness,” is the story of a “blonde bombshell,” who blasts the underworld, and deals with crime and terror, with romance and comedy to lighten the tension. Frank Albertson ana Maris Wrixon have the leading roles. CIVIC THEATRE “In This Our Life” is an absorbing drama with an outstanding cast—Bette Davis, George Brent, Billie Burke, Olivia tie Havilland, Dennis Morgan, and Lee Patrick. The tense situation of sister against sister arises in the story, and leads to some striking developments, which lead to a very dramatic climax. Very finel work is done by the players. In the supporting programme is the second of the series of Russian Monte Carlo ballets, in technicolour. REGENT THEATRE In “The Hour Before the Dawn” Somerset Maugham takes a group of people who are caught up in dramatic happenings of the England of today. It is the story of a woman who destroys everyone she loves. Franchot Tone and Veronica Lake have the principal roles, and are supported by Henry Stephenson, Binnie Barnes and Nils Asther. The supporting programme includes “Fun News,” “Speaking of Animals,” and the latest war news by air mail.
