ALLEGED GAMING

POLICE ARREST 77 MEN AUCKLAND, Saturday Police raided a three-storey building in Durham Street last night and arrested 77 men, who were charged at a special Court sitting at 1 o’clock this morning with gaming offences. This was one of the biggest raids in Auckland for several years. The raid took place at about 9.30 p.m. The police invaded the premises from back and , front, taking all the occupants by surprise. Games were in progress on a billiard table and other tables in the room when the police party entered. Larry Lasher was charged that, being the occupier of premises at 26 Durham Street, he used them as a common gaming house, and David Henry Siihon was charged with assisting Lasher in conducting a common gaming house. Each was remanded to appear before a magistrate on Monday morning, bail being fixed at £IOO in each case. The other 75 men were charged with being found without lawful excuse in a common gaming house. They were also remanded until Monday morning on bail of £5 each.
