JURY FAILS TO AGREE

ACTION AGAINST FILM STAR (Received Jan. 5, 3.15 p.m.) LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4 The jury failed to agree in a case in which the actress, Joan Barry, sought to have the film star Charlie Chaplin declared the father of her child. After six ballots the jury was divided 7—5, whereupon the judge declared a mis-trial. The American Press says that an informal poll showed that six women jurors and one man favoured declaring Chaplin not the father of Miss Barry’s child. Miss Barry’s attorney said the action would be re-instituted immediately.
