TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES STATE THEATRE “It happened in Flatbush” is a story of great human interest. Lloyd Nolan and Carole Landis have the romantic leads, and good work also comes from Jane Darwell, Sara Allgood and William Frawley. In effective contrast is (“Mantrap,” in which mystery, thrills and romance are intermingled. Henry Stephenson gives one of his usual vivid performances and gets splendid support from Lloyd Corrigan and others. CIVIC THEATRE “King’s Row,” featuring Claude Rains, Ann Sheridan, Betty Field, Robert Cummings and Ronald Reagan, tells a very dramatic and appealing story and unfolds an unusual romance. "In This Our Life,’ described as the intimate diary of a woman of the world, will head the new programme tomorrow. The outstanding cast will include Bette Davis. George Brent, Billie Burke, Olivia de Havilland. Dennis Morgan and Lee Patrick. Another of the Russian Ballets will also be screened. REGENT THEATRE Abbott and Costello are very funny in “In Society,” in which as plumbers they find themselves at a house party, with bathing pool revels, fox hunt, etc., and finish with a thrilling chase that rouses the audience to hilarity. “The Hour Before the Dawn,” Somerset Maugham s drama, will be screened tomorrow. It features Veronica Lake and Franchot Tone. THEATRE ROYAL In “South American George” the popular George Formby is involved in one of his funniest and mo.st exciting adventures. The intriguing situations and witty dialogue keep the audience chuckling throughout. The setting of the story is very colourful, and the comedian introduces some of those lilting melodies which are always so popular. Other interesting and entertaining films add to a satisfying programme. ROXY THEATRE One of the screen’s most elaborate and intricate lightning jobs was carried out for the song number "My Shining Hour, which Joan Leslie sings in “The Sky s the Limit.” Fred Astaire plays the part of a Flying Tiger pilot on leave, who decides to pose as a civilian idler. The part of a photographer for a picture magazine is taken by Joan Leslie. “The Crystal Ball.” with Ray Milland and Paulette Goddard, is also screened.
