FIRE BRIGADESMEN

SUPERINTENDENT’S REMARKS (By Telegrspti.—Preis A«»ocntlon> AUCKLAND, Friday The statement that a wrong construction had been placed on his remarks made recently regarding the physical condition of members of the Fire Brigade was made at a meeting of the Metropolitan Fire Board today by Superintendent W. L. Wilson. He said it was when reference was made to the provision of covered-in • fire engines that he jocularly remarked: . “You will be trapping us up in cotton wool next and making softies out of us.” Mr Wilson also pointed out that when he said that many of the best men were overseas he was not speaking particularly of brigadesmen but of New Zealanders in general. A deputation of fire brigadesmen who attended the meeting accepted the superintendent’s explanation.
