PLANS FOR RELIEF
EUROPEAN COMMITTEE MEETS (Official Wireless) RUGBY, Nov. 22 The European Committee of U.N.R.R.A. held its ninth meeting to-night under the chairmanship of Mr Ernest Brown, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. The director-general, Mr Lehman, who attended the committee for the first time, said there was great need to bring home to the public, both inside and outside the Continent, that during the period of military responsibility of the liberated territories it was the military who were in control of supplies and shipping. U.N.R.R.A. had undertaken certain tasks to assist the military in the work of relief and rehabilitation, but these tasks were limited to providing personnel to act as agents for the military in general relief work in the Balkans and in the handling of displaced persons in western Europe. In neither cases did U.N.R.R.A. have control over the furnishing of supplies. All the European Governments except the U.S.S.R. had indicated their intention to request in principle the assistance of the Administration in dealing with the problems of the health of nationals and repatriation.
