HOTEL INCIDENT
KARAPIRO MAN FOR TRIAL (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Wednesday After two previous remands. Janies Hastings Hampstead, of Karapiro, appeared before Justices yesterday, charged with breaking and entering the premises or James Fleming at the Central Hotel on September 7. Detective-sergeant W. R. Murray prosecuted. Mr A. L. Tompkins (Hamilton) appeared for accused, who pleaded not guilty. He was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being refused. The evidence or a number or witnesses was that accused was seen coming out of the hotel in the company of P. G. Harvey, a permanent boarder, who had called out to Mr Fleming that accused had been found in Mr Fleming’s bedroom. Accused had walked away and disappeared Into a vacant section. After Mr Fleming had notified the police he went to his bedroom and found that a wardrobe had been broken Into and money taken from a brief bag. In the bag was approximately £6OO. £l5O or which belonged to his son, an aircraftman. Several witnesses said they Identified the accused In an identification parade at karapiro hydro. investigations by Constables Warren and Solly, oi' Cambridge, resulted in the arrest of accused.
