PUBLIC OPINION
CURRENT VIEWPOINTS HOSPITAL RATING (To the Editor) Sir,—Your correspondent H. Levy goes into great detail to explain the threatened retribution to those who think enough of the injustice of hospital rating to take a definite stand to have it. repealed. He overlooks the fundamental right of democracy whereby the individual is entitled to the right of free speech in order to j fight that which is objectionable to his or her way of living. Concerted action is the only method of opposing the injustice which no broadminded person can deny is contained in the present system of hospital ratihg. The constitution of our country allows people to write to oppose their wrongs, providing they keep the peace in so doing. No one can claim that the stand that is being made is a breacp of democracy in any shape or form, although it may embarrass a certain political element. In any case it in no way approx ites the precedent of injustice evident in the Local Amendments and Polls Act, which is directly responsible for bringing the matter to a head. If H. Levy desires to continue this controversy I would suggest he do so under his own name. —I am, etc., MAX HEWITT.
