SYDNEY, May 23 Allied planes, using the captured airfield on Wakde Island, are intensifying their activity over the western sector of Dutch New Guinea. Several enemy aerodromes and supply bases in the area have been attacked by General MacArthur’s bombers. Japanese shipping has also been hit. two .'mall cargo vessels being destroyed and others damaged. Allied naval units have shelled and destroyed enemy ammunition dumps in the Sarmi area, a few miles from Wakde Island. The total of counted Japanese dead in this area has risen to 833. REPATRIATION OF PRISONERS WELLINGTON. Tuesday The Dominion chairman of the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office, Mr H. Able, said today that no definite information had been received regarding the names or number of .Yew Zealanders concerned in the repatriation of prisoners from Germany. The men were on the way to the Middle East and as soon as the names had been received and checked the next-of-kin concerned would be advised immediately. THEFT OF £2240 ADMITTED NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday Seventeen charges of theft front five clients involving sums of money totalling £2240, were admitted by lari William Barton Roy, formerly a solicitor practising in Nc v Plymouth. The period over which the thefts took place extended from May 11. 1938. to August 27. 1942. Accused was committed for sentence.
