MISSING ON OPERATIONS
SUB-LIEUTENANT CRANWELL Reported missing, believed killed, Sub-Lieutenant (A) R. A. Cranwell, of the Fleet Air Arm, before going overseas was a well known yachtsman in Auckland. He is the son of Mr and Mrs A. H. Cranwell, of 44 Selwyn Road, Epsom, Auckland, and a nephew of Mr R. B. Cranwell, of Hamilton. Educated at the Auckland Grammar School, he left for England three years ago as a rating. Sub-Lieutenant Cranwell was well known as a yachtsman in the 18ft class, and during leave in England sailed on the Thames. He also played Rugby in England. Six months ago he was a survivor of a ship torpedoed near Iceland. Before that he had been instructing in England.
