FURTHER PROMOTION
ROYAL AIR FORCE OFFICER Advice has been received by Mr L. W. Faville, of Hamilton, that his son, Wing-Commander Roy Faville, has been promoted to the rank of Group-Captain in the Royal Air Force. Group-Captain Faville, who is 36 years of age, was educated at the Southwell School and Hamilton High School and then attended Canterbury College, where he gained the B.E. degree. Twelve years ago he left New Zealand to join the Royal Air Force, being the second man to gain a permanent commission. Group-Captain Faville’s work recently is understood to have been of a technical and confidential nature. Earlier in the war he took part in several interesting flights, his part in one being mentioned in SquadronLeader T. Dudley-Gordon’s “Coastal Command at War.” Group-Captain Faville was described as “an energetic New Zealander,” in one of nine Beauforts armed with torpedoes on a flight over the North Sea which culminated in the mission being achieved and an enemy ship, the Lutzow, being seriously damaged.
