CITIZENS OF HAMILTON In offering my services to the people of Hamilton I feel that a Borough Councillor should be proud and enthusiastic about his town and should be in a position, and be prepared to devote a considerable amount °f time to borough affairs. It is not enough that he attends the meetings and record his opinion on the proper administration of the various Borough problems. That opinion should be backed by a close, intimate, personal contact with all Borough activities. This means giving adequate time to Borough affairs—l AM PREPARED TO GIVE THAT TIME. I think a councillor should be free and independent and imbued with the idea of rendering service to the community by improving conditions equitably within the Borough', and without fear or favour serve the citizens as a whole, regardless of party, class, or creed. Further he should expect and tolerate criticism, and look for no credit for his endeavours but he must not be unduly influenced by either. AND I believe he should have much experience in ORGANISATION ADMINISTRATION and matters PRACTICAL and FINANCIAL to get for the citizens a business-like return for Borough moneys expended so that rates will not outdistance the progress and prosperity of the Borough. The most urgent problems, in my opinion are— Homes for Hamilton, soldiers and citizens; Complete the rest rooms and the Hayes Paddock swing bridge without further delay; Plan for the future to ensure a JOB for our gallant lads and lasses on their return; Improved milk supply; Free water for school baths; Self educational club for boys and girls; Press for additional accommodation for the travelling public; Safety measures for greatly increased vehicular and pedestrian traffic after the war; and in due course A Town Hall and other social amenities. These are my ideals and ideas, and if they meet with your approval, may I ask you to record your approval by voting for M. M. SHAW THE INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE
