ITALIAN “AVIATION CITY” (Received Jan. 15, lp.m.) LONDON, Jan. 14 In Italy yesterday, says an Allied communique, enemy airfields were the objectives of a concentrated attack by strong forces of bombers. Guidonia and Centicella were attacked by escorted heavy bombers and later by medium bombers. Perugia was attacked by escorted heavy bombers, while medium bombers attacked c/er airfields, bombs falling among hangars, ravetments, dispersal ' areas and runways. A flight of bombers effectively supported ground forces. At Isola and Colleferro railways yards were hit and at Formia dock installations were attacked. Off the Dalmation ! coast enemy shipping was bombed | near Sbenik*. ?en enemy aircraft ! were destroyed and five Allied air- ' craft are missing. Guidonia is an aviation city wholly ! devoted to aeronautical research in ; production. The Fascists boasted I that Guidonia was the most complete ; scientific military institution of its ; kind in Europe. I Reuter’s correspondent says FortI resses and Mitchells attacked Gui- I | donia and cratered the airfields, tore up the runways and hit experimental buildings, workshops, assembly plants and barracks. Many hits were scored on parked planes and hangars. Ten of 40 fighters which challenged the attackers were shot down.
