LONG RAIL JOURNEY

SHEEP FROM EAST COAST GISBORNE, Tuesday A rail journey of over 600 miles is being undertaken soon by sheep to he entrained at the Matawhero railway station, near Gisborne, for the Waikato and Auckland districts as far north as Wairnauku. A special train will be run for the purpose and will be one of the longest haulages for large numbers of livestock the railway has ever undertaken in the North island.

Every summer hundreds or thousands of sheep are sent away from the district, mainly to the Waikato, but also to Hawke's Bay, Mana vatu and Taranaki. Those for the Waikato in the past have been driven on road to Taneauia and entrained there

or shipped to Tauranga, where they were entrained, but this year the Shortage or drovers has forced some purchasers or breeding ewes to send them all the way by rail.

The first consignment or 4 4 trucks, or nearly 4000 sheep, is leaving within a few days, and should be followed by more when the ewe fairs commence next week.

A popular line in Unbleached Sheets is the Allas Sheets procurable at Hooker & Kingston’s. Made from high-grade long staple cotton they have a linen -like finish bleach to a be -itiful soft snow white finish and being a fine quality launder easily and are delightful in use. These are in single bed size only, and are moderately priced at 54 90 34/6 pair, and 54 x 96 36/6. Hemmed ready for use.*
