AIRMAN FINED £5
LIQUOR NEAR DANCE HALL For having liquor near a dance hall on the night of November 20, a fine of £5 was imposed on Max McKay, a member of the R.N.Z.A.F., when he pleaded guilty before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., today in the Magistrate’s Court, Hamilton. A similar charge against Leonard John Stoodley, of the same corps, was dismissed. Senior-Sergeant A. G. McHugh, prosecuting, called evidence to show that the two men left the dance hall and went to a parked car some distance away. A constable followed and found in the car a gallon jar of beer and a quart bottle of beer. McKay said the liquor belonged to Stoodley, who had called to take McKay to a party to play the piano. They had left the hall to proceed to the party when the constable questioned them. They admitted they knew it was an offence to have liquor near a dance hall, but contended it was not intended to consume the liquor until they arrived at the party. The magistrate said the constable’s evidence was not definite enough to justify a conviction against Stoodley.
