AWARD TO AIRMAN
WING-COMMANDER G. MAGILL '' BAR TO FLYING CROSS A former resident of Te Aroha and Hamilton, Wing-Commander G. l R. Magill, has been awarded a bar to the Distinguished Flying Cross, according to advice received by his I father, Mr R. W. Magill, of Te Aroha. Wing-Commander Magill has been recently appointed the commanding 1 officer of a new station in England. Wing-Commander Magill was on ■ his second tour of operational duty! and had taken part in a large num-i ber of successful operations, states , tne citation accompanying the award. 1 On one occasion, with great skill and- ; determination, he flew a badly-dam-|] aged aircraft safely home on one en- • gine. His fine leadership contributed ! ; to the high standard of efficiency l ; attained by the squadron. j, Wing-Commander Magill, who is,: 29 years of age, attended the Hamil- ■ ton Technical High School. He was | i a member of the Waikato Aero Club, obtaining his pilot’s license. He went < to England in May, 1936, and ob- I tained a short-serx’ice commission with the Royal Air Force. His D.F.C.i was awarded for his work over Eri- ( trea and Abyssinia. He was liaison ■ officer between the R.A.F. and the ] Second N.Z.E.F., and was mentioned j in despatches. j-
