SENSATIONAL REPORT
SUICIDE OF MUSSOLINI? LONDON, Nov. 23 Mussolini is reported to have committed suicide yesterday at his villa on Lake Gardia, North Italy, in a fit of depression, says the Zurich correspondent of the Stockholm newspaper Dagens Nyheter. There is no confirmation of this from any other source. According to a reporter of the Deutsche • Allgemeine Zeitung Mussolini is a sick man and is in the hands of a German medical specialist. He lives and works on the first and second floors of the Villa Feltrinelli, at Fasano, on Lake Garda. The park surrounding the villa is patrolled day and night by Storm Troopers.
The reporter, who visited the villa, was surprised to find no women and no civilians attending Mussolini. The housework and table service were all done by orderlies. The visit of the reporter coincided with a meeting of the “Cabinet Council.” Everybody rose as Mussolini entered. He was dressed in a militia uniform richly decorated with medals. He assumed his imperatorial attitude and the traces of exhaustion disappeared from his face. However, he was leaner and looked older.
Allied security officials in Naples have arrested Giuseppi Frignani, a high-ranking Fascist. He was one of the m ten founder-members of the Italo-German Friendship Society and also general manager of the Statecontrolled Bank of Naples.
