TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES
STATE THEATRE “Dead Men Tell” is an exciting mystery thriller, bringing back the Oriental sleuth Charlie Chan. Sidney Toler appears as Chan and Sheila Ryan and Robert Weldon are prominent in support. In eirecttive contract is a second i'eatur ■ film, “A Very Young Lady,' a sparkling romantic comedy with popular Jane Withers Heading the cast, supported by John Sutton, Janet Beecher and Richard Clayton. CIVIC THEATRE •‘The Mark or Zorro” is an exciting romantic drama, dealing witii a masked adventurer who strikes at many people, always leaving the jagged mark or his sword. With its stirring action and unusual romance the film makes good entertainment. Popuiur Tyrone Power fills the leading role successfully, his dark good looks and swagger filling him well ior the part and Linuu Darnell, Gale Sondegraded. Busil Ruthbone and Eugene PalJette giving excellent support. THEATRE ROYAL “Sabotage at Sea” combines mystery, sensation, romance and comedy very entertainingly. It is something new in spy dramas, with a setting at sea. Margarettc Scott, Dave Hutcheson and Jane Carr, three English players ol' distinction, have the leading roles. “SnuiTy smith Yardbird” brings the popular American comic scrip to the serene. It is a rollicking comedy, with Edgar Kennedy, Bud Duncan and Sarah Padden learlng the funmakers. ROXY THEATRE “This Gun for Hire,” featuring Veronica Lake and Robert Preston, and “A Night in New Orleans,” with Preston Foster and Patricia Morrison in the leading roles, will be screened tonight. “This Gun for Hire” is a drama with tense situations and interesting dialogue, and Veronica Lake and Robert Preston fill the leading roles successfully. Many exciting tilings nappen during “\ Night in New Orleans,” and the unfolding of the romantic piut keeps audiences interested. REGENT THEATRE Featuring Hedy Lamarr and Walter Pidgeon, the dramatic “White Cargo” is a story dealing with the moist, steaming tropics, where a group or white men oversea n rubber plantation. Walter Pidgeon is Witzel, sullen and hard-bitten overseer, who takes drastic action to save his young assistant (well played by Richard Carlsen) rrom the wiles or the exotic Tondeiayo (Iledy Lamarr).
