I WELL-KNOWN MAORI’S FUNERAL ' Many elders from tlie King Country and j 1 Waikato attended at the Maungatautari Pa i recently for the funeral of the late Mr | l Tewi Tupouri Tairi. known as Dave Tairi. I I whose death occurred as a result of in- | juries received in an accident at the Kara- : i piro hydro-electric works. Mr Tairi was ' a minister of the Katana Church. The Rev. Heemi Rihimona. of Whatav.hata and Apostles Poutu Hihiti and! Moerua. of Te Kuiti. officiated at a I service held at Te Manawanui meeting! house. The pall-bearers were th. 3 resident j j engineer at Karapiro. Mr J. Gilkison. the : j overseer, Mr J. Cameron, ana employees from the Karapiro works, the coffin being ' carried to Te Ngarangi. the burial-, ; ground of the Ngaati Kahukura tribe. Mr! I Tairi was an active member of the Maori Home Guard Evidence of his popular- | ity was shown in the large number of ' pakeha friends and members of the New Zealand Workers' Union who attended the . funeral.
