MR CURTIN’S TRIBUTE

MS HOLLAND IN AUSTRALIA (Received Nov. 9, 11 a.m.) CANBERRA, Nov. 9 A tribute to the co-operation between New Zealand and Australia was paid by the Prime Minister, Mr Curtin, in extending a welcome to the Leader of the New Zealand Opposition, Mr S. G. Holland, and Mr F. W. Doidge. “Now is the time we should organise our maximum strength by better planning of our total resources,” said Mr Curtin. “That may mean more sacrifices for the civil population.”

Mr Holland said Australians and New Zealanders had a common purpose in the Pacific. New Zealand had a division fighting in the Pacific with the same objective as Australia. Whatever fate Australia had to face New Zealand must also share it.

Mr Doidge commended Mr Curtin’s proposal for an Empire Council and also suggested that problems of Empire could better be understood by interchanges of members of Parliament, irrespective of party affiliations.
