PIANO-SONG RECITAL

HAMILTON MUSIC STUDENTS The Hamilton Music Students’ Association, continuing its policy of giving members an opportunity of hearing outside musicians as well as fostering talent in its own ranks, arranged for Miss Kathleen O’Leary, of Auckland, to give a recital last night, associated with Hamilton’s popular singer, Mrs lan Stuart. There was the usual large audience, and the programme was keenly enjoyed. The performers were introduced by the president, Mrs F. Wilson.

Miss O’Leary, who is a brilliant pianist, played the Prelude and Fugue in A Minor (Bach), Siciliano (Bach), Sonata in C Major (Mozart), Suite Bergamasque (Debussy), Prelude and Clair de Lune (Passepied), Sonata in F Minor (Brahms), and the final movement of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.

Mrs lan Stuart, who was in very fine voice, sang “Sapphic Ode” (Brahms). “Love’s Secret Lost” (Schumann), “Thou Ring Upon My Finger” (Schumann), ’The Gartan Mother’s Lullaby” (Hughes), “The Sandyman” (Brahms) and “Prayer to Our Lady” (Ford). Mrs H. Hammond was a sympathetic accompanist.
