MR KYLE WITHDRAWS

AVOIDING SPLIT VOTE (Br THojrraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday Mr H. S. S. Kyle, Independent candidate for Riccarton, has announced that he has decided to withdraw from the contest. In announcing his decision Mr Kyle said his candidature would involve the dividing of the votes opposed to Labour and would probably lead to that party’s advantage. The National candidate is Mr J. T. Watts. Chief Whip of the National Party, Mr Kyle won the Riccarton, seat for the Reform Party in 1935 and has held the seat ever since. Mr Kyle, who retained his seat in 1938 by a majority of 87 votes, was a member of the National Party until the Opposition members withdrew from the War Administration, when he announced he would became an Independent.
