BETTER JERSEY STOCK
LIFE-TIME MERIT REGISTER The value of a life-time merit register was emphasised at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Jersey Breeders' Association at New Plymouth when a remit recommending the council to consider granting a subsidy for all pedigree Jersey cows qualifying for the Dairy Board’s life- , time merit register was carried. In introducing the remit, Mr R. C. Leech said I the life-time merit cow was the ideal. The true value of a herd sire was not known until the measuring rod was placed on all his daughters, and it could not be determined by the high production of a few selected daughters, said Mr G. H. Bell. He emphasised the importance of the register in connection with sire survey work, and considered the .Jersey Association had been backward in not having introduced such a register years ago. Now that it had been taken up by the Dairy Board it should be given every support. The council was authorised to consider the question of forming a life-time merit register of cows under G.O.H.T. and C.O.R. test.
