FRENCH IN AFRICA
REPORT OF RUPTURES LONDON PRESS COMMENT ATTITUDE OF BRITAIN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copjiis’bt) (Received June 15. noon) LONDON, June 14 Commenting on reports from | Algiers of new ruptures in the 'French National Committee the limes observes: "They need not, perhaps, be taken too tragically. Ihe appear to arise partly from tne real difficulties of the fusion of two military organisations which hitherto had had nothing in common save the desire to contribute to the victory over the Axis, and partly from personal rivalries which are net less important because they are intangible.” "Discussing the attitude to be adopted to the National Committee by the United Nations, the Times suggests that three conditions should determine it —(1) That nothing be done which may seem to anticipate the eventual judgment of the great mass of French citizens; (2) that the supreme authority and freedom of action of the joint military command of the United Nations be fully maintained in ail territories where operations have been or may be undertaken; (3) that any decision relating to the status of the committee should be the joint decision of Britain, the United States and Russia, since experience has demonstrated the serious inconveniences which may arise from discrepancies in policy between Britain and the United States or Britain and Russia on issues of this kind.
