PUBLIC OPINION
CURRENT VIEWPOINTS ALLEGED POISONING (To the Editor) Sir,—l would like to know who is laying poison for defenceless animals, i This person apparently dwells somewhere in the vicinity of Hamilton East. To him I would say: Couldn’t you air your grievance another way? Have you seen a poisoned animal in its agonising death struggle? If not I would like you to see your handiwork, to hold the poor little creatures in their agony. Were you ever a little child who owned and loved a “live toy?” Did your “live toy” go to meet you on your way home from school? Was there a day when no little happy bark and a wagging tail greeted you? Then did you ever fling yourself upon a bed and break your heart as only a child can, when you realised never again would your pet greet you? If, as you think these so-called nuisances are “so-and-so,” why do you think the Creator himself made them? Did you ever stop to think how easy it j is to take life, but can you give it back? And how many human lives have been saved by our doggy friends? Next time you lay poison, test it yourself, then perhaps you will j 1 lay no more poison for a defenceless ; animal.—l am, etc., R. A. CLARKE (Mrs). Hamilton East.
