CONDUCT OF HOTEL

PRISON FOR PROPRIETRESS (Bv Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Monday The denial of Sarah Anne Vangioni, aged 64, proprietress of the Balmoral Private Hotel, that she knew of any incidents of immorality in the hotel w’as not accepted by Mi N. F. Stilwell, S.M., in a reservec judgment in the Magistrate’s Court today and he convicted her of permitting the hotel to be used as a house of ill fame. She was fined £IOC and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. The magistrate said he was satisfied that Vangioni knew in general of what was going on under her roof, and though she made some pretence of disapproval the whole circumstances pointed irresistibly to the conclusion that she connived at it. He was satisfied that the house had developed into a_house of ill fame.
