INCREASED REVENUE
FRANKTON JUNCTION TRAFFIC I Large increases in passenger, par--1 cel and goods revenue collected by I the New Zealand railways at Frank- | ton Junction are revealed in the i figures for the year ended March 31. j An increase of 56,643 passenger | tickets is shown, this year’s figure | being 197,321, against last year’s i 140,678. Although season tickets dej creased in number by 25 the revenue j showed an increase of £ls owing to j the tickets being issued for longer j distances. Fifty season tickets were I issued to a value of £lO5. An inj crease of £8719 was shown in pasI senger revenue totalling £51,492. Last | year’s figure was £42.773. Parcel | revenue increased by £7BB, this year’s | figure being £2670. I Passenger and parcel revenue amounted to £54,527, an increase of £9578. Last year’s figure was j £44,949. The number of luggage | checks issued was 23,530, ah increase ; of 6166. Transport of Stock Altogether 31,057 head of cattle and calves passed through, this figure being 4245 higher than last year. Sheep and pigs decreased by 3439 owing to fewer lambs being transported. The total was 190,409 head against 193,848 last year. An increase of 8523 tons was shown in the figures for general and miscellaneous goods handled, the total tonnage being 46,473. The greatest revenue increase was shown in the goods section where £69,763 worth of goods was handled. This figure increased by £16,486 on last year. The dear old lady 'smilingly approached the tobacconist with: "I want some cigarette tobacco for my son.” ‘’Certainly, madam,” said the tobacconist. “What kind would you like?” “Oh, I forget its name,” replied the old lady, “but it’s the tobacco my son says nearly everybody’s smoking now.” The tobacconist smiled. “Then this will be it,” he said, handing over a tin of Riverhead Gold. “That, madam,” he continued, “it is the finest cigarette tobacco money can buy. It’s quite harmless, too, because being toasted by a special process, it’s practically free from nicotine.” The old lady beamed. “I am sure that must be the tobacco my son wants,” she said. “I suppose you sell a lot of it?” “Any amount,” replied the tobacconist, “you see, it’s everybody’s favourite.” Well pleased, the old lady smilingly departed. Riverhead Gold, as all who “roll, their own” know, is one of the five famous toasted brands: Riverhead Gold, Desert Gold, Pocket Edition, Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), and Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead). As several worthless imitations are about—be careful when you buy.
