ATTACK ON CONVOY
BRITISH DESTROYER LOST RESCUE OF SURVIVORS LONDON, April 9 In a submarine attack on an Allied convoy in the Atlantic two submarines were destroyed and the British destroyer Harvester was sunk. Protecting the convoy, the Harvester discovered a U-boat and forced it to the surface with depth charges. The destroyer promptly rammed the submarine, which became fixed on the British vessel’s bow. The destroyer was damaged by the impact and a French corvette name to her assistance. When the submarine was freed the corvette pounded it with guns and then rammed and sank it. The Harvester in its damaged condition moved on slowly while survivors from the submarine were rescued. The corvette was ordered to assist the Harvester, which, however, came to a standstill and was then torpedoed and sunk. While the survivors of the destroyer were being rescued the corvette saw another submarine on the surface and promptly rammed and sank it.
