| TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES CIVIC THEATRE “ The Lady Vanishes” Is one of the most entertaining- spy stories brought to the screen, the tension of some of the scenes being relieved by many amusing Incidents. It deals with the activities of enemy agents and the clever manner in which they are rolled by British secret service me. There are manv In the film, and the romance between Margaret Lockwood and Michael Redgrave is delightful. STATE THEATRE The popular detective Michael Shayne ha 3 one of his most Intriguing cases in “ Sleepers West,” which takes place aboard the crack Western train, the Comanche Limited, and has to do with the transport-tatlr-n or a vital witness In a murder trial. Michael Shayne, detective (Lloyd Nolan', is safeguarding Mary Beth Hughes, who portrays the witness. “Dance Hall,” featuring Cesar Romero and Carole Landis, is an exciting romantic comedy. ROXY THEATRE “Singapore Woman” is a colour Tul Jungle romance. ’Brenda Marshall and David Bruce head the strong cast. “George and Margaret” as a stage comedy, ran Tor two years in London. It has been brought to the screen very successfully, and the story or the expected guests who upset the lives- of a whole household Is as funny REGENT THEATRE “ Saboteur” is an exciting story or a young American worker in an aeroplane factory who Is falsely accused of sabotage, and who, escaping from the police, sets out to run the real saboteurs to earth. He is Involved in some exciting adventures, culminating in a thrllllg climax on the Statue of Liberty in New York harbour. “ Remember,” featuring Greer Garson, will be screened shortly. THEATRE ROYAL “ Merrily We Live” keeps an audience In hilarious mood throughout. Constance Bennett and Brian Aherne have the romantic leads, and are supported by Billie Burke, Alan Mowbray and other clever fieople. “Sunday Punch” is another amusng comedy, featuring William Lundigan I and Jean Rogers. The two nims make | splendid entertainment.
