TRAIN DELAYED
LIMITED EXPRESS 12 HOURS BEHIND SCHEDULE The derailment at Manganaoho of a van on the first express train from Wellington on Tuesday night caused a disruption in the rail services. The derailed van ripped up a long stretch of track 'and the limited express was delayed until it was repaired. The train was stopped at Hunterville, a few miles short of the damaged line, when it arrived there after 11 o’clock on Tuesday night. It remained there during the night, but returned to Marton at seven o’clock yesterday morning. The passengers had breakfast shortly before eight o’clock, and after about an hour and a-half at Marton the journey was continued. A large number of workmen started repairing the track immediately after the accident. The weather was wet, cold and windy as the train waited at Hunterville, and conditions were no better at Marton. The express arrived at Frankton at 6.40 last night and reached Auckland at 9.40 p.m.. 12 hours and 10 minutes behind schedule. The early train was 90 minutes late. The express from Wellington this morning arrived at 6.35 a.m. instead of the scheduled time of 4.19 a.m. The limited express has been suspended during the coal strike.
