DELAY LIKELY
HOSPITAL BUILDINGS DEPARTMENTAL PROCEDURE Referring at today’s meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board to the building loan proposals involving an outlay cl £3,70,0u0, the chairman, ivir F. Findlay, said the Director-General of Health had approved the plans and specifications (subject to certain comments) for additions to the nurses’ home and dining-room, alterations and additions to the kitchen and additional store, and the infirmary block (Hockin Wing) at the Waikato Hospital. Mr J. H. Edgecumbe, of Messrs Edgecumbe and White, the board’s architects, detailed the progress of work in anticipation of tenders being called. The secretary, Mr A. C. Burgess, said that tenders could not be called until the plans were finally approved by the department and the Local Government Loans Board had consented to the Hospital Board’s application, after which the approval of the Minister of Health was necessary. Reason for Delay Mr Edgecumbe said the new infectious diseases block was practically completed. He added that there might be delay in progressing with the additions to the dining rooms and staff quarters, etc., because the Health Department had forwarded the plans and specifications to the Public Works Department for a bill of quantities. This was a departure from the usual procedure, and was j likely to involve a considerable delay in commencing the works included in I the building programme. The board considered that these .■•mailer works should be cbmmenced without delay. Representations arc tf> be made for the necessary per- | mission.
