SCHOOL BUILDINGS
UNAUTHORISED REQUISITIONING DEPARTMENTAL INSTRUCTION 1 Instruction was received from the Education Department at last night’s meeting of the Hamilton Technical High School Board of Managers that requisitioning of school premises for any purpose other than that for which the buildings were provided was viewed seriously. In future the board was not to hand over any building or part of a building to any person or organisation without formal written requisition. It was mentioned by the secretary, Mr W. Fraser, in explanation, that unauthorised organisations had been requisitioning school buildings in various parts of the Dominion witnout proper authority. Member’s Difficulty Mr W. Roth well, of Frankton West, a representative of the local bodies, wrote asking that his resignation Dc accepted, as he found it impossible to attend meetings owing to the petrol restrictions. It was decided to grant Mr Rothwell leave of absence in the hope that he would be able to attend in the summer months. The secretary reported that Mrs Sims and Messrs C. Nisbet, C. A. Barrell, M.P., and C. Champness would automatically retire in September, when an election to fill the four vacancies would be held. Boy students under the supervision of Mr C. Champness, were reported to be constructing a ramp from the upper floor of the building to the hign ground on the west side. When completed this would prove very convenient, especially in case of any emergency requiring evacuation of the building at short notice.
