WOMEN FOR E.P.S.
COUNTRY DISTRICT NEEDS MATAMATA, Sunday The Matamata Farmers' Union, after hearing an address on the Emergency Precautions Service local organisation by the Mayor of Matamata. Mr A. E. Wrig- j ley, who spoke as chief warden, decided unanimously to give enthusiastic support to a district scheme for setting up women's committees of practical workers under their own wardens on the same lines as the men. It was also decided to urge comnulsory registration of all women between the ages of 17 and 45 years under the E.P.S. and/or the Women's War Service Auxiliary. It was pointed out that in one district, Te Poi, in the case of an emergency 32 farmers would have to leave their milking herds. Although there were 200 members of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary, every one was already attached to some specialist branch. There were nine other districts, so that the great need for increased numbers was evident.
