STIFF RESISTANCE FIGHTING IN CHINA (United Tress Assn.—Eiec. Tel. Copyright) (Received June 9, 11 a.m.) CHUNGKING, June 8 The High Command declared that fighting is continuing on the outskirts of Chuhsien. The Chinese are sKffly resisting the Japanese drive to close in cn the Chekiang battlefront from the Kiangsi Province westward. The Chinese have launched a concentrated counter-attack at Chuhsien with a view to preventing a junction of the two Japanese drives on Kiangsi and Chekiang, says the Associated Press correspondent at Chungking. Militarists explain that such a junction would give the enemy control of the inter-provincial railway and also might trap large Chinese forces.
